PLANTING ESSENTIALS

Bog Plants are also called Marginal Plants. That’s because their natural habitats are the shallow water along the margins of a pond or stream. They also grow in bogs and swamp like conditions. There are upright growing types like bulrushes, cattails and horsetail and surface covering types that grow like miniature waterlilies or creep along the water surface.

As a general rule, the upright growing bog plants prefer 0-6 inches of water above their roots (unless otherwise noted) and the surface-covering bog plants need 4-18 inches of water above their roots.  Most bog plants will thrive in any exposure from full sun to shade or anything in between (unless otherwise noted.) All plants on this page are winter hardy down to USDA Zone 4 (unless otherwise noted.)

AQUATIC  PLANT  NUTRITION  (FERTILIZERS)

LilyTabs - Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tablets (12 pack)
LilyTabs - Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tablets (60 pack)

LILYTABS - AQUATIC PLANT FERTILIZER TABLETS

20-10-5 with minor elements

These easy to use tablets provide aquatic plants with proper nutrition including minor elements. Use one tablet per gallon of soil when planting waterlilies and lotuses and feed every 30-45 days thereafter by pushing the tablets finger deep in the soil.  We recommend feeding bog plants and irises at half of that (1 tablet per 2 gallons of soil.)

These solid tablets will not dissolve the instant they get wet like other brands do. They are safe for fish and all aquatic life. Complete fertilizing instructions are included.

The five dozen and twenty-five dozen come in reusable heavy duty plastic containers that are waterproof and airtight.  The one dozen pack comes in a sealed plastic bag.

PLANTING  CONTAINERS  (POTS)

Nursery Pots (Assorted Sizes)
Nursery Pots (Assorted Sizes)

NURSERY POTS

Assorted Sizes

Nursery pots are perfect for most bog plants, submerged grasses and dwarf to small size waterlilies. These pots have small drainage holes in the bottom so we recommend using a coffee filter to prevent soil from leaching out the holes. These holes will allow the roots to escape once the plant’s roots have outgrown the pot.

Nursery Pots are black (or dark green) in color. Black is the default;  we ship dark green pots only by request or if we are out of the black ones.  Either color should blend in with the pond bottom.

4 inch pots are ideal for small bog plants and submerged / oxygenating plants.

6 inch pots are ideal for most bog plants and dwarf to small waterlilies.

8 inch pots are ideal for medium size bog plants, iris and small to medium waterlilies.

4 Inch Pot  $ 0.55 each

6 Inch Pot  $ 0.65 each

8 Inch Pot  $ 0.95 each

4 Inch Pot  $ 4.75 pack of 10

6 Inch Pot  $ 5.50 pack of 10

8 Inch Pot  $ 8.50 pack of 10
